I have removed all the brakes on my 16/65 for renovation. I struggled to get the lower fulcrum circlips out and anticipate problems with reassembly. Any tips as to reassemble would be appreciated. Also where exactly do the two cam shaped washers go on the front shoes, fulcrum end. Jim Goad

I use a nut cut down and shaped to fit either side of the fulcrum and a G clamp to compress the sprin and washers when fitting the circlip. I don’t understand what you mean by the cam shaped washers. perhaps you could post a photo of the parts that you have as the early Series111 brakes were slightly different to the later cars. The pictures of the nut are not good but should give you an idea of what to do.

Yours are the early type Jim, when you replace the shoes there is a slight offset to the pivot ends to allow them to rest properly against the back plate.
Graham.

Thank you Graham, just one more question. I have 2 large washers, I know that one goes behind the circlip: does the other go behind the shoes or in front? regards, Jim

The other one goes in front of the shoes then the spring JIm, both my Series cars have thinner smaller O.D. washers behind the circlip, I don’t know why other than to make reassembly easier. Both cars were bought years apart and from opposite ends of the country so it may have been a factory mod.
One has the early brakes the other the later type.
Graham.
