Wolseley Register members once again supported the club by showing a range of exhibits in different stages of restoration at the 2024 Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show. The three-day show attracted almost 27,000 visitors with over 160 club stands on offer.
The four cars on the stand were:
1946 Wolseley 18/85 Series III – FNG 710
This example was shown in a “barn find” state with potential for restoration. The Series III 18/85 model was launched in 1938 but production was halted by World War II. It was one of the first models to be brought back into production in 1945.
1957 Wolseley 6/90 Series III – EJC 342
The Wolseley Six-Ninety was introduced at the October 1954 Motor Show, designed by Gerald Palmer (of Jowett Javelin & MG Magnette fame) as a replacement for the Six-Eighty. The model is closely related to the Riley Pathfinder and being the last of the four Gerald Palmer designed Wolseleys, was the final Nuffield Wolseley.
This Series III example was shown having very recently been restored following accident damage to the front offside wing several years ago. Work undertaken has included the use of many handmade replacement body panels with particular attention to alignment. The car has also been fully re-upholstered and fitted with a new roof lining.
During the Show, the plugs were checked and the ride height was adjusted on the torsion bars.
Visitors to the stand were impressed by the quality of the paint finish and one of our 6/90 Technical Advisers was delighted to see the car back on the road. The owner looks forward to using the car over the coming months.
1962 Wolseley 1500 Mk III – DSL 569
This example of the popular 1500 model was purchased by the current owner two years ago. Over this time, extensive work has been undertaken including overhauling and upgrading of the braking system. Some modifications have been made to the front suspension to reduce body roll.
Significant structural repairs have been carried out to the bodywork and other alterations have been made to keep the car as practical as possible. Many electrical modifications have been done and servicing of original fitments to ensure reliability and safety.
The upholstery and wooden dashboard have been repaired and attention given to the carpets and head lining. There is still more welding to be done and attention required to rust areas.
During the Show, the cancelling mechanism of the indicator was adjusted on the steering column and electrical connections were cleaned on the starter motor. New screen washer jets were also fitted.
1966 Wolseley Hornet Mk II – GEL 182D
This local Front Wheel Drive Hornet has been undergoing a full body restoration over the last 4 years and was presented straight from the paint shop in a striking shade of BMC Red with an Old English White roof. It is now 80% complete and the owner intends to have on the road later in the rally season.
Five other Wolseleys were displayed around the Show by current or previous members of the Wolseley Register and there was a good camaraderie between the various clubs.
Many Register members and other visitors were welcomed to the stand where they talked to the owners and other club personnel about the exhibits. Membership enquiries were dealt with and club merchandise was available.
Thanks to all the stand personnel and exhibitors for their hard work and to all who visited the stand over the 3-day Classic Car & Restoration Show 2024. The Wolseley Register will be applying for space at the 2025 Show scheduled for Fri 21 to Sun 23 March.
